Planning page for N-scale layout in Kolding 2010 Last updated 2010-03-25.

About this page
The Kolding Group handles all the practical stuff. Therefore this page will only contain info which is relevant for the planning of the N-scale layout and operation.

This page will be updated along the way, and should in the end hold all needed info.

For all details, other than N-scale specific, please see: http://www.fremo-net.eu/?id=684 (Remember to login with your password).

Registation and other practical stuff
If you want to participate with N-scale modules please make a registration before 24 januar 2010 either by FREDL or to the special mailaddress: kolding@n-re.dk.

REMEMBER that all participants who needs catering has to register with the HO Group, see http://www.fremo-net.eu/?id=684, in order to provide info to those responsible for the logistics.

Unfortunately the area given to the n-scale layout will not be accessible until 12:30. I will be in the area from Wednesday evening at around 21:00.

Planning
A rough plan will be the following:
• 07 feb Layout ready
• 01 mar Timetable ready
• 15 mar Rolling stock plan ready
• 01 apr Everything ready
It’s a tight schedule but as it seems right now, it will only be a small layout.

Layout
The area is rectangular 10 x 20 m = 200 m2.

General perspective:
Since there is generally little Danish stock, it is normally difficult to implement services demanding stringent epoch. The Danish group compensates by running mixed stock mostly with epoch 3-4 and slightly epoch 5 stock. Since the largest part of the layout will be Danish, this practice will be used for Kolding and therefore the epoch is free, as long as the majority of stock must be from epoch 3-4.

Inventions and assumptions:
We are in a mixed time around epoch 3-4. We have the DSB main line from Nordfaxe to Fredericia. In Fredericia, we find the connection to the rest of Denmark, the northern areas and the Baltic (blue and red zone). In Nordfaxe connection may be obtained to the German border where we find Rosenheim station which through the line south to Eichthal is connected to the main German lines (black, gray and brown zone). Close to Nordfaxe we find the Yallahrup. The freight management of Yallahrup and Nordfaxe will be run from Yallahrup. At the port of Yallahrup connection may be made, by ship, to green and yellow zone. A Danish local branch line starting in Fjerndrup, is connected at Steenstrup. All freight cars are running in the pool across all borders. Passenger cars are mostly local or main line material with only a few international cars crossing the border. All traction must be changed at the border.

Lines:
The Danish DSB main line runs from Nordfaxe to Fredericia. The Danish DSB local branch line runs between Steenstrup and Fjerndrup The German DB main line runs from Rosenheim to Eichtal A German local branch line runs between Haukethal and Tettnang

Freight:
The timetable contains mainly freight wagons with free freight (ie. not block trains), Between stations, and in and out of rail network ends (fidleyards an harbors), goods are transported according to waybills/freight cards brought by the owners of the stations. Only a few block trains will be planned

This is freightcards for each station according to owners descriptions of the station:
Fjerndrup, Hauketal, Nordfaxe, Rosenheim, Steenstrup, Tettnang, Torup All stations owners must print on their own, using either these or similar freight bills produced by them selves.

This is the Yellow pages for Kolding Yellow_pages.pdf and in this overview: Cars_Surplus_and_needs.pdf you will find an estimate om which empty cars to order and which spare to return to fiddleyard based on
A hard copy of these 2 documents, printed by N-organizers, will be available on all stations and fiddleyards.

Timetable:
The timetable is expected to be divided in 2 periods of 8 hours ie. from 05:00 to 13:00 in the morning and 15:00 to 23:00 afternoon. This gives an approximate real time of operation at 1.5 + 1.5 hours at speed 5-6 on the clock. No trains will be planned between 13:00 to 15:00. The plan is to run 2 international freight (Fa - Etl) in each direction both morning and afternoon and 2 international passenger (Fa - Etl) in each direction both morning and afternoon There must be adequate cargo and passenger trains at the branches to connect to the international trains for both goods and passengers.

This is the timetables:

as well as "The Big Book" with info on all trains.
A hard copy of these 5 documents, printed by N-organizers, will be available on all stations and fiddleyards.

“The freight game”:
The freight game is standard FREMO as station staff (owners) acquires goods by delivering freight card/waybill to the sending stations. All cars (passenger cars and cars in fixed block trains not included) must have a car card. A rough list will be made of how many of each UIC class should be on the individual stations before starting roadmap. Fixed block trains as “Herningværket” may run with only 1 freight card/waybill covering all cars.

To support the freight game and operation i general we have the following files:

A hard copy of these 4 documents, printed by N-organizers, will be available on all stations and fiddleyards.

Fiddleyard colors are:
Fredericia: Blue Red
Eichthal: Black Grey, Brown
Yallahrup (Track 8): Green, Yellow

Staffing:
The setup should preferably be run by 14 people at the stations, but staff could be shortened to as low as 4 people. In addition to this are the loko drivers. This means that everyone will have plenty to do. The timetable will be planned for optimal staffing (14).

The following is a list of the optimal staffing:

EichthalStation Manager (X) Shunting Master (2)
HaukethalStation Manager (7)
RosenheimStation Manager (10) Shunting Master (4)
TettnangStation Manager (6)
NordfaxeStation Manager (X) Shunting Master (1).
YallahrupStation Manager (9) Shunting Master in case on personnel surplus.
SteenstrupStation Manager (X) Shunting Master in case on personnel surplus.
FredericiaStation Manager (X) Shunting Master (3).
TorupStation Manager (5)
FjerndrupStation Manager (8)

In case of too few people, staff will be cut down following the number in parentheses. The first one of the staff to be taken out is no. 1, next is no. 2 and so on. X is the minimum staffing which cannot be taken away. When staffing is reduced, some trains will be taken out of the timetable.

Equipment
All those who participates with modules, should bring their Loconet boxes, wires and boosters. Intellibox is provided by the danish group. This should be sufficient.

Clocks will be provided by Jens Schmidt who will bring 3 clocks and control.

The danish group provides a phone central and phones enough to cover the entire layout.

I expect, for the moment, that the Kolding-group will provide the equipment needed to provide everything with electrical power.

Unfortunately the list of locomotives and cars ar not available yet, but expect to bring as much as you can carry ;-)

Looking forward to see you all
